Department of History

Though today is different from yesterday it was shaped by yesterday.
Today and yesterday will probably influence tomorrow.

The Department of History has been getting overwhelming response from the students right from the beginning. The department has broadened the horizon of the subject keeping in  view the interdisciplinary approach. It organizes the following activities on regular basis.

  1. Visit to the excavation of sites near Haryana.
  2. Visit to the local historical Sites.
  3. Visit to the zonal museum of Hisar division.
  4. Annual historical exhibition.
  5. Celebration on different Historical days
  6. Inter-class and intra-class quiz competition.
  7. Essay writing, poster making presentations by the students on various topics.

The archives and museum established in December 2013 is the key feature of the Department and one of its kinds in the state. The archives gallery represents some rare documents and photographs of freedom movement, maps related to Indian History, paintings of Mughal and later periods, shields and helmets of traditional warfare systems from ancient to modern periods. Archaeological and historical material like coins, pottery, toys, ornaments, beads and bangles of terracotta are also displayed in the museum. The presence of folk Culture of Haryana can be felt from agriculture equipment and folk dresses displayed there.

The teachers of the department are specialized in all the areas i.e. Ancient, Medieval and Modern. 

Activities of the Department :

  • Haryana is celebrated golden Jublee years now a days so department of History conducted a workshop about the history and culture of Haryana and after that organized a quiz contest on the same thing in two phases. The primary down was taken place on 28th March, 2016 in which 25 Team participated and second round to play song 07.04.2016. Team of Ram Mehar, Ashish and Raj Rani stood first, team of Sandeep, Puneet and Amit stood second and third prize was bagged by Shakti Singh, Manjeet and Pulkit. 
  • History Department also organized visit at local level at Hisar. Like Church, Krantiman Park and Gyankendra on March 3, 2016. 
  • The student of History were taken to local Historical Tour to the Firojshah Fort at Hisar on October 19-21, 2015. On First day, student of BA-III, on second day student of BA-II and on third day student of the BA-I visited the site. Total 280 students participated in the visit.
  • On 28 September 2015 Shaheed Bhagat Jayanti celebrated. An extension lecture  also organised on this day. Eminent Hisotrian Dr. M.M. Juneja was the main speaker on the occasion. He express his view on Indian national movement and the contribution of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
  • The student of History Dept. visited the Regional Museum of Haryana and Hisar Division at Jahaj, Kothi on 9 August to 13 August, 2015. All teacher of History Deptt. explained about the museum and its importance in history of Haryana. Incharge and Direction of Museum address the student and explain about Technical aspects.
  • Department of History started a New series of Flex Poster in College related to Historical days. Special Photograph has been prepared related to January 12, 23, 26, 23, March 23, September 23, 28, October, 2, 24, 31, November 1 and December 10 and 25.
  • Rakhigarhi : A Harpan site is the biggest site in India as well in world, UNESCO declared this site as the World Heritage Site. Excavation on this site is under progress by Deccan College, Pune (Deemed University), collaboration with Archeological Department of Haryana. Student of History Department visited this place in March 15. Prof. Basant Sindhe vice Chancellor Deccan College, Pune and director of the site explain about the important of the site and about the material found here. 
  • All three teacher and some students of History visited the nearby Historical site Khanak. At this site the exavation was conducted by the Banarash Hindi University, Banaras and University of Cambridge, U.K. Prof. R.N. Singh of Banars University and Prof. David Camroon of Cambridge University explained about the site and related material  of excavation. The site is new emerging site related to Harpan culture.
  • Museum and Archives of the Department also reset during this session. New material like pottery, coins, beads and stones also became part of this. Display board also extended with new documents specific related to contribution of women in freedom movement, socially formers and Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
